Books and authors your interested in

He is one of my other very favorite writers.
He has written:
The Dark elf trilogy
The Icewind dale trilogy
The huntersblade trilogy

And many other books.

He said he grew up as a teenager reading The lord of the rings and he loved it. I think its amazing how one person can enspire so many other people.

Drizzt Du'Urden Is one of my favorite characters from his serie's he's a drow elf ^.^ very cool. Any one else read any of his stuff?

I tried, but I find the whole TSR novel formula tiring. Dragonlance made we want to vomit. Forgotten Realms made me wretch.

Actually, most authors of fantasy are inspired by Tolkien in some way, sometimes too much (Terry Brooks. Blech.)

Anti-Tolkien Fantasy authors: Michal Moorc-o-c-k, L. Sprague de Camp, Fritz Lieber.

Stephen King was inspired to write the "Dark Tower" series by Tolkien, one of the few things he wrote which i liked (though only the first book). Terry Pratchett is very much a Tolkien fan.

Did you know Harry Turtledove's first book started as a sequel to 'The Lord of the Rings."?

But...back to R.A. Salvador. I find him to be the usual fantasy writer for the mass-market--on the border of genius, sometimes achieving it, but far too much concerned with writing to formula so he can sell more books. I think if he could break out, he would be an excellent fantasy author.

Well, Im sorry you feel the way you do about what I like. but I kinda made this thread to talk about what books we like, guess I didnt specifie that.

Oh, I read mainly nonfiction, not fantasy. Whenever I read Fantasy, however, I either read some older book, or Terry Pratchett.

Terry Pratchet person hey. I couldn't get into his books after a friend made me try on the promise that he would try Lord of the Rings but he never has. Maybe I'll make him read them and then introduce him to this forum.

Terry Pratchett is an excellent humorist. Most of the Discworld books had me rolling on the ground laughing.

As for Authors I'm interested in, most of them are dead, however, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Lieber, and Michael Moor-c-o-c-k come to mind. After the "Barbed Coil" and "Cavern of Black Ice" I was into JV Jones for a while, however, i don't find her books quite so readable any more.

My favourite book of all time is "Dr. Zhivago", by Boris Pasternak. It's hard to find much else by him though.

I read alot of books from the library so I never remember the auther (thats how Aussies spell it and I will not change). I've read a few Star Wars books thanks to Mitch (fanficfan).
