What do you think of him? I think he's not epical enough (-> boring), as I mentioned in another thread.

Could't get into "Colour Of Magic" so I didn't try any other.

I love Terry Pratchett. I don't see why his books need to be "epic", their reason for existance is to be funny.
And funny they are.
So far, my favourite Discworld Novel has been "Men at Arms", which had me rolling on my haunches and busting kidneys several times.
"The Colour of Magic" was the first Discworld book and isn't the best--he wrote it when he was young. But "The Light Fantastic" is a great improvement. As for "epical", in "The Light Fantastic" the wizard Rincewind must save the Discworld from being destroyed by a Red Giant Star. Seems epic enough to me.

*sputters* 'Boring'?!??... Pratchett? Well I never... Currently reading 'Thud' here. ;D I really can't see why anyone could not find something to their liking in even one of his books. Not unless they simply don't like to lower themselves to such commoners' reading for even a shot time. (And no, I'm really not trying to point at anyone and really just mean it in fun. *tries to look harmless* ) Me mam an' da' gave me the first taste of his wonderfully backwards genius a time and a half ago. Since then, I've eaten my way through enough that I can only remember the titles of a few and random bits that I can't quite tie to the books they're from. There is still a long list of those I have yet to get my paws on though. Looking forward to more. =^.^=

I have been told to read Mort and have turned the offer down saying "I am reading Unfinished Tales and have a while to go yet."

yeah you did. very rude of you I though... Terry Pratchett is probably my favourite author. His style of writting is sheer genius, he can take somethignas serious as religion and armageddon, and make it absolutely hilarious without making it any less serious. If you doubt the truth of my words read Good Omens, co-written with Neil Gaiman. Anything set on the Discworld is always worth a read (Maj, you know where to find me if you change your mind about Mort) although my favourite is probably Nighwatch. Fav characters being Vimes and Granny Weatherwax. If you want epical you need to read "The Last Hero" it's an illustrated story. This almost put me off tbh, I'd only just got into Pratchett and someone told me about it. I was thinking "a picture book? i dunno..." But i read it anyway, then I read it twice more. It's brilliant. ........ You know what, I'm just gonna stop here before I turn this thread into a rave about how great Terry Pratchett is. Just read the books (particularly the ones about the city watch or the witches) and you'll understand.

I don't need to come to you if I want to read Mort. I'll just go into the library at school. We have many Terri Pratchett books there.

Also, he takes things from real life to be motifs in the books, which adds an additional taste of geekness to his writing. Here's a book that discusses the grandfather paradox, here's another one that makes fun of the Napoleonic wars... On top of all, more people buy his stuff.
