Yep I'm sure. I did my research to make sure I wasn't piling on the BS lol. Narsil was created in the First Age by the Dwarven master smith Telchar.
Go to Google, type in: Narsil, wiki

Okay. In that case, would a dwarven sword, reforged by elves, be made specially so that it can't break? Okay, I think we may be a bit off topic. I think, that the movie was inaccurate, but now, we can discuss whether or not what we were discussing actually happened. Speaking of which, what were we discussing?

If Narsil could actually be sharp.
So it was created by Telchar in the first age so it was an heirloom I'm guessing? Anyway would Telchar have made the sword sharp though. In the Hobbit the two elven swords Glamdring being one of them, they are sharp so that gives the indication that elven swords are sharp.
I dont remember if dwarf swords were sharp as well.

I think it'd be quite possible that the Dwarves, master smiths that they are, would have some techniques for making a sharp sword that wouldn't shatter against armour. It's pretty easy to think that at least some of the elves know similar techniques, given that Elves and Dwarves got along fairly well in the early days.

Also, weren't they taught by Aule, master smith? Surely he could have taught them ways to make mighty swords. However, when Aragorn had it, would it be sharp? No use for a couple of hundred years, although some handling. Sharp? I think not. When it was reforged, yes, but before that no.

We are talking about a scene in the movie so we have to do away with all the Aragorn carrying it around stuff and think of it just sitting on a thing in Rivendel. It wouldn't have been sharp no. It might have once been sharp but then it wasnt.
Strange thing is I have had a similar convosation with some one in my class. What I said was the elves polished the shards and so kept the rust away therefore keeping it sharp. That also is possible.

Unless it is made like the samurai swords, they stay sharp for yonks. And if the Elves were looking after it too... Yes the dwarves were taught by Aule, one of the Valar. Aule created the Dwarves but had to make them sleep until woznames children (the Elves) awakened. I think it's perfectly feasable that the Dwarves and Elves had some techniques for making swords stay sharp.

Yeah and also the sword had no rust. In that the sword would have probebly been polished so as to keep the rust away helping it to stay sharp.
