Just recently, the government of Florida has outlwaed Interpritive history in public schools. From now on, only "facts" will be taught.
Is it just me, or is there a fundamental flaw in this reasoning? Is not all history interpretation? Many of our constructed dates from early history are made by intelligent conjecture?
So what makes fact?
What the government says is fact.
This is, perhaps, one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a while, and also points towards a somewhat scary trend. Fortunately, living in Canada, this doesn't affect me, but it sets such a dangerous precedent that i can't help but have strong feelings about it. The government of Florida can now control the interpretation of history, in that only one interpretation is correct--and this is what will be taught.
Looks like they've found a wonderful way to take control of the past and thus pollute the future.

Man was made to question, so to hear this, I'm astounded. "Facts"? What about the whole "freedom to express you opinion" thing. Hypocrites.

Then again, this is coming from the state, where there is a law banning the ommission of wind from the anus in public after 6:00 pm on Thursdays. And I am being 100% serious about that.
Well if you are given one side of history, that means no more empathy tasks. It does mean, however, that instead of eliminating "dangerous thinking" they are more likely to create it. Give enough curious people biased history, and eventually, they will seek their own answers.

Somehow I'm not overly surprised. America is becoming so paranoid that it's going to take itself out. But if something like this happens in Australia there could be problems (especially at our school Majimaune)

Well, I for one would teach myself history. I saw a Radio Free Roscoe episode where the teacher hadn't considered both sides, and a student proved to them that both sides should be looked at. Everything you need to know is there, you just have to look for it.

@ Majimaune - Yeah they made us get a flag pole... I wonder how long it'll take the government to realise they didn't make us get a flag... lol
It's not like they can stop kids finding different points of view anyway. If it interests them they'll just google it and get millions of different PoVs. It's stupid to restrict history to one view. There's always at least 2 sides to every story.

@ Mitch. Yeah well we dont want it up there anyway.
@ Angoreth. Are you sure the world would be a better place. Power might go to your head and you might become a tyrant.

Technically, she'd be a Tyranness (real word?) lol Much as I hate to admit it, a woman in the White House would probably be a good thing if she was strong enough to stand her ground against the huge number of male politicians. We need less testosterone ruling the world.

When it comes down to it, it does not matter who leads government, wether they be white or black, christian or jew, German or french, man or woman, but as long as they know what they are doing, they have my vote. But even then, it takes a tad more to be an effective president.

I disagree. All you need to be a president is a lot of common sense and the strength to keep the hounds off your back. Unfortunately the current president seems to lack common sense and also seems to agree with the hounds.
