Golden-red scales glittered in the sunlight; a toothy grin showed a gleaming white welcome to any that came near. Creaking on its chain hinges, the old wooden sign depicting a dragon curled around a bejeweled throne had somehow always been known among wanderers, merchants, townsfolk and anyone else that had stumbled across it.
Standing at the outer edge of a one road village, timber and river-stone walls boast of a well founded business. Almost singing of safety from storms that frequented the hills, room for all in the spacious and well kept hall and any length of rest for the weary, it was no surprise to find that some stayed longer then a few nights.
---------
"Gavin? Gavin, I need something to drink. And something hot again..." Rubbing at the familiar ache in her neck, Nalla entered the still quiet hall and worked her way to one of the tables to wait for the barman.
How long she had been here, the young woman never bothered to think. She had found here way here in a storm and had never really bothered leaving. It was as simply as that. A young girl taken in by the large, shaggy bearded man, she had been happy to repay his kindness by helping with the chores. He had long since given her her own room and said nothing against her wandering around.
A tired sigh sounded as she dropped into a wooden chair and leaned on the table, its surface smooth and clean by the time she had spent scrubbing it.

A women about 5'5 dressed in a long black cloak entered from the front of the inn. Stepping up to the counter she waited for the host to present himself/herself.

Where's he go off to now? Looking around for the absent barman, Nalla sighed and pushed herself up as a woman stepped towards the bar. Leaving me to do things...
Rubbing her hands on a corner of her simple apron, Nalla brought a well practiced smile to her lips and nodded to the guest while stepping around the bar. "I'm afraid master Gavin isn't here just now. Can I get you something?"
Glancing around to be sure he hadn't suddenly decided to move anything she may need, her eyes also wandered over to the large windows; maybe he'd just gone out for a smoke again.

A tall man, robbed in Black with Brown skin stepped in, his hair waving in the breeze, with a smile on his face. He took a few moments to take in the surroundings, casting a glance upon two women sitting in the opposite side of the inn. Feeling rather uncomfortable at the sullen silence, he whispered, "Hi?" uncertainly.

Glancing over him quickly, the young woman didn't immediately see any weapons; this was little good in her opinion though as there was no way to tell what might be under that dark cloak.
Catching herself before the little smile faded too much, Nalla nodded curtly to him. "Good day, sir. Welcome to the Dragon's Throne." Another glance went between the two guests, her head tipped slightly to one side as she waited either to hear what they would have or be scolded by that familiar bark of what she knew was only ever halfhearted disapproval.
Humming (though it was more like rumbling) a deep chested tune to himself, heavy, almost lazy foot falls thumped against the back porch. Lugging a burlap sack over one shoulder and a swinging a nearly filled bucket in the other, Gavin worked his way through an unmarked door and into the kitchen.

The woman glanced around at the nice comfortable hall. She looked at the other customer to make sure as not to interrupt, " Um, per chance do you have wine? Red wine?"
She stepped over towards a table not to far from the counter to take a seat. "Also, something to eat would be nice. It's been a while since I've had a warm meal, " she smirked as she heard her stomach rumble in reply to the thought of good food.

"Red wine? 'Corse we've got some. And how does stew sound? Could put some bread with it for only a little more..." Letting the offer be considered, alert eyes went again to the man. In her mind, she shrugged. She knew enough to know that some simply needed time or wanted to be left alone. Either way, she could oblige.
*thump* "That ought'a last awhile." Gavin stretched, relieving his back a bit as it had started to grumble about the weight of the flower he had just bought. Setting the covered bucket of cream back a little ways on the counter, he almost grinned at the thought of there being hot rolls and sweet butter for dinner that evening. "Now where's that girl gotten off to..."

"Much obliged," she smiled at the large mug of wine. "Stew would be wonderful, anything warm and doesnt taste burnt.Being on the road with myself, I find it worth enough to hire a cook to tag along." She was humble enough to admit she wasnt the best of cook's.
She lifted her drink and took a large gulp," Also, how much for a room?" She asked as she was getting up to move closer to the fire.

mmmmm.... Well something's gettin' done around here. Gavin grinned and gave the large pot another few stirs. Freshly chopped vegetables mixed with meat broth and chunks of beef; the rich scent rising on tantalizing wisps of steam. Knew that one'd be worth somethin'.
Making sure that all looked to be going well back here, large hands brushed an invisible layer of dust from the tough, dark brown cloth of a well-enough-to-do Innkeeper. Footsteps moved from the large hearth, walking their usual path to a service door set a few handy steps from the bar.
Meanwhile, Nalla had taken a moment to push some mugs back in line as the woman spoke. "Well. That depends on what sort of room you'd be looking for. We've got some that are really nice; good view of the woods and valley an' all?" Blue eyes and her quiet voice had taken on a questioning but clear note, like she was used to hearing the common answer if not using it herself.
"Then there's the simpler ones; clean and cozy, those are only a few coins a night. All but some of the simplest rooms have a fireplace and all have locking doors." Nalla paused and seemed to appraise the woman a little more closely. "What would be to your liking?" One hand reached out for a plate, a bowl soon to be set in its center.

Fair-haven thought to herself for a moment. "I think one of the finer ones would do nicely. View of the woods right?" She unfurled her cloak around her to let some of the warmth from the fireplace in. She looked at Nalla and tilted her head, "How far away is the nearest town do you know?"

"About a day and a half's walk if ya don't count what litte's around here, miss." Nalla almost jumped, her face showing her surprise at hearing the rumbling voice so close behind her.
Nodding quickly, the young woman slipped past the still only slightly taller but much wider man. With a soft thud, the door came closed well after she had moved across the kitchen with the dishes still in hand.
"May I welcome you to my fine inn, mylady." He pulled off a smooth bow and smiled, one hand waving over the room. "You may call me Gavin; look's like you may have already met my little run-a-way." Nalla came out just then with a bowl of hot stew, a chunk of bread tucked beside it on the plate.

"Greetings to you as well, I presume your the owner of this fine hall?" she said sitting up straight as Nalla brought over her food. "Thank you very much, " her eyes glazed over as she locked her eyes on the food. She breathed in deeply, her stomach pinched at just the smell. So...beautiful she picked up the bread and sniffed it a few times.
After realizing she was getting odd looks she quickly took a bite, " It's been a 'very' long time since I've had a warm meal." She said in between chews. She looked down at the bowl and started after the stew.

Though quieted in the large space, a warm, deep-chested chuckle came hand in hand with an appreciative smile in response to the woman's actions. Nalla showed a quiet smile as she bowed her head respectfully and stepped back towards the kitchen; Gavin a few steps behind.
One large hand tousled the long, dark strands into a puffed mess as the door closed behind them. "Alright alright!" Nalla ducked and darted away, both hands quickly brushing the tangle back down. "So I was up late again. At least someone was here."
Gavin scowled at the girl through thick eyebrows, but quickly lost the attempted impression as his mouth twisted back into a grin. "Aye, but you missed out on your walk to the mill. Thought ya liked to get out..." He almost laughed at the look she shot at him.

Fair-Haven smirked at the jest between the two. " So, Gavin, was it? How long has this Inn been here? And are you it's original owner?" She took a drink to wash down the bread.

Giving Nalla a one handed push towards the back, the salt-and-pepper haired innkeeper said something about dinner and starting things ahead. She understood well enough; there was something that he had planed on serving later and she was going to be the one in back cooking again. A slightly dramtisized sigh was offered for show instead of the wrinkled nose and pink tongue that she kept reminding herself was too childish for someone her age. Three more steps and she was in the kitchen and looking around for what he expected her to do.
"Yes ma'am, Gavin Berwick; and no, I'm not the first keeper of this fine establishment. In fact," He plucked a cup from the counter and began to rub it with one corner of a rag. "the Dragon's Throne's been here longer then half the village. Some 'ave even said it's the whole reason there is a village in this area; What with the legend an' all."
